John –
Today we honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
Dr. King is a personal hero of mine, and I often reflect on his words, words that ring with moral clarity during these tumultuous times.
He wrote the “arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends towards justice.” This is one of his most quoted lines, but I find myself returning to it again and again, particularly in the context of today’s struggles.
Dr. King knew that the fight for justice and true democracy wouldn’t be won in his lifetime. It is a fight we are still engaged in today and a fight that is more urgent than ever after the assault on our democracy we all witnessed earlier this month.
I am ready to pick up the mantle and continue this work – for civil rights, for education, for voting rights – and commit to confronting injustice wherever it manifests.
Together, we can ensure that Dr. King’s legacy of service, nonviolent action, social justice, and speaking truth to the moral conscious of our great nation continues to inspire generations to come.
That is how we can best honor the legacy of Dr. King. That is how we can bend the long arc of the moral universe towards justice.
