Hey John - This Monday, we celebrate and honor Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s life and legacy as a leader of the civil rights movement. Dr. King championed causes such as desegregation, voting rights, labor rights, and worked tirelessly to uplift the Black community before his assassination in 1968. His influence has inspired many to continue to fight for racial equality and justice and continues to do so today. To learn more about the life and legacy of Dr. King, take some time to look through the biography and articles provided by the Stanford Martin Luther King, Jr. Research and Education Institute. In addition, let us remember, “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. We are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny. Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly.” -Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. We hope you will join us in honoring Dr. King's legacy by participating in MLK Day of Service and VAYD’s Lobby Day, in orrder to give back to our communities and help champion progressive change in our commonwealth. Once again, as Inauguration Day approaches this Wednesday, we encourage you all to remain vigilant and safe. Stay home if you can and avoid downtown DC. We do not want to overextend the resources of the National Guard, who are on the lookout for potential threats, or put ourselves and others at risk. Otherwise, join us the evening of January 20th for a virtual event to celebrate a step forward in a positive direction with the inauguration of President-elect Biden and Vice President-elect Harris. AYD & Arlington Dems Inauguration Day Virtual GalaJoin AYD and Arlington Dems for a virtual celebration this Inauguration Day, Wednesday, January 20th at 7pm via Zoom! The day we have worked so hard for is finally here and although we can't meet in person, we can still enjoy the inauguration of President-elect Biden and Vice President-elect Harris through virtual festivities together. We'll have guest speakers and several virtual activities via Zoom, including a comedy show, mixology class, game room, and family friendly trivia!

For the first half of the meeting, we will be joined by lieutenant governor primary candidates, Xavier Warren and Sean Perryman, along with gubernatorial primary candidate, Senator Jennifer McClellan. For the second half of the meeting, we will have breakout rooms to organize caucuses for 2021. We currently have seven caucuses that you can join (and you can join more than one.)
