Earlier this week, House Democrats voted to impeach Donald Trump a second time, cementing his place as the worst and most dangerous president in modern history. We applaud their decisive action and commend the 10 Republicans who joined them.
Unfortunately, the GOP caucus in the Senate has been loud in their rejection of impeachment, likely because many of their own members should be facing the same charges, including Trump’s favorite Senator Ron Johnson.
But there is a clear mandate here: the Senate must take up impeachment and expedite Trump’s trial and conviction.

John, the Senate, led by Mitch McConnell, is purposely delaying the impeachment process.
In postponing until after Biden’s inauguration, Senate Republicans are giving themselves two options:
- Argue Trump cannot be impeached by the Senate since he is no longer in office
- Use the impeachment trial to delay the Biden-Harris administration’s progressive legislative agenda
We cannot allow either option to become reality — Trump must face consequences now for his role in inciting insurrection. And then, next, it’s time to remove Ron Johnson and other members of Congress for their role in inciting the attack.
