Hey! - I’m Wanika,

I’m a first generation American, woman of color, and local elected official in Maryland. I was tired of seeing my neighbors' issues and lives being ignored - so I ran for office to create change for my community. I invite you to join me for UWD’s “Run for Something” Webinar this Tuesday Jan 19th at 6 pm EST / 3pm PST, where I’ll be sharing my story. After I attended a training exactly as this one, I felt it was my duty to change the system from the inside and to be an ally to my community.

Friend, when I see my name on the voting floor I am still in awe and humbled. 🥰 I think it is vital for underrepresented folks to run for office. If we believe in representative government; that means the people in office should reflect the community. I took a chance! Will you?
