John,
Yesterday, the NRA declared bankruptcy — saying it wanted to restructure and move to Texas.
This is a clear attempt to try to avoid being brought to justice by the New York Attorney General, but it also means the NRA is admitting they are on the decline. That is a testament to the work our movement has done over the past few years.
But we cannot underestimate what they will try next. They’re doing this because they want to regroup and fight back against us harder than ever before. We have to be ready for that fight.
It is remarkable to think how far we have come in just a few years. Back in 2016, the NRA spent more than $50 million trying to elect Donald Trump and Congressional Republicans. Reporters considered it “one of the most feared political entities in the country.”
Thanks to the work we’ve done, they are a shell of what they once were. We have a movement that has the political will to stand up and go toe to toe with them.
Their grip on Congress has loosened, and their role in last year’s elections was extremely diminished.
But this move is a clear signal that they are not going down without a fight. They are trying to evade justice, and there’s no doubt that they are going to try to rebuild into what they once were.
Thank you for being part of this movement. We would not be at this point without your ongoing support.
