John,
On January 6th, a violent mob of far-right extremists, encouraged and emboldened by President Trump and his enablers, stormed and vandalized the U.S. Capitol in an attempt to overturn the results of the Presidential election. Additionally, threats of armed protests being organized at all 50 state capitols and during the inauguration of President Biden are growing. This extremist violence has been growing over the past year—driven in part by the gun lobby and weak gun laws—and is threatening our democracy and putting lives at risk.
For decades, the gun lobby has peddled the far right's dangerous conspiracy theories in order to further their "guns everywhere" agenda. The NRA has consistently disregarded public safety and promoted lax gun laws that allow dangerous extremists to arm themselves and open carry firearms at state capitols, like in Michigan, and at counter protests, like in Kenosha.
John, the stakes of our fight against the gun lobby's extreme agenda could not be more clear. Make no mistake, this anti-democracy armed extremism we are seeing is gun violence.
Fighting for common-sense gun safety laws that will stop armed extremists and protect our democracy means that we need all the resources we can get. Can we count on you to help us build our grassroots movement and end gun violence in America?
We are working every day to fight the far-right extremism that has been peddled by the gun lobby and exacerbated by President Trump. Contribute today to strengthen our work to enact common-sense gun safety reform and end gun violence in America.
Thank you for standing up for public safety, public health, and gun safety reform in America.
Sincerely,
Rob Wilcox
