Democratic Candidate for Clovis City Council

Noha Elbaz is the only Democrat running for a seat on the Clovis City Council. This is not a typical election—it takes place on March 2, 2021.

Elbaz is an active volunteer in the community, a mother, former classroom teacher, former campus president of a local college in Clovis and a lifelong leader in the field of education.

As a young child, her family immigrated to North America from Alexandria, Egypt. Her parents chose to immigrate to provide the best opportunities possible for their family. Elbaz’s parents instilled in her the importance of a good education, hard work, and giving back to the community.

Elbaz and her husband chose to settle in Clovis because of its small-town charm, great public schools and being a safe place to raise young kids. On the City Council, she will work to maintain those qualities by supporting local businesses and schools, promoting responsible growth and offering a diverse perspective.

Elbaz is running against out-of-touch Republican incumbents, who have campaign funds pumped in by out-of-city corporate interests.

Donald Trump‘s insurrection on Jan. 6 has drawn attention away from other Republican attacks on our country’s soul that happen to have a lower body count. On that same day, six House Representatives from California voted to reject Electoral College votes from Arizona and Pennsylvania in order to nullify Joe Biden’s win and thus end our nation’s history as a democratic republic. Among those six, the Central Valley has the ignominious privilege of supplying Devin Nunes (R–Tulare)..

There were 138 Republicans who voted to nullify the elections of either Arizona or Pennsylvania. The Californians who did so were Nunes, Kevin McCarthy (R–Bakersfield), Doug LaMalfa (R–Richvale), Jay Obernolte (R–Big Bear Lake), Darrell Issa (R–Vista), Ken Calvert (R–Corona) and Mike Garcia (R–Santa Clarita). By continuing to press the same deception that motivated the insurrection mob outside, Nunes and his colleagues have clearly announced themselves as enemies of democracy.

There is no real dispute over the election. There are no real questions about legitimate and illegitimate votes. To many people’s surprise, the November election ended up being well run, clear and free of disenfranchisement. Nunes has access to all the relevant information and so his insult to our country can only be explained by malice.

California cannot continue to reward this man with a job. In two years, Nunes will be up for reelection, and every voter in his district must be reminded that he voted to end American democracy.

Keep Others Safe this Winter

Covid-19 cases are skyrocketing across the country, worse than it was during shelter-in-place periods last spring. The vaccine is here, but we will only be able to relax once we have near universal coverage, and that is still many months away.

So remember, for the health and prosperity of all those around you, wear a mask, wash your hands, practice social distancing and reduce your incidents of contact with people who do not dwell in your home. More than 380,000 Americans have died from this pandemic. That number is sure to rise, but we can do our part to limit that climb.

The more of us who restrict ourselves now, the less time we will have to do so, and the more lives will be saved.
