A weekly wrap up of all things election integrity.
THE PAST IS PROLOGUE
Friends,
It is the time of new things. A new month, a new year ... and new challenges. Lots of new challenges.
We must honestly reflect on what we’ve come through and prepare for what lies ahead.
The fact is that most voters took elections for granted. Now, Americans want answers. How could our electoral process have moved so far away from the simple premise of one legal voter, one legal vote? And where do we go from here?
It's time for rebuilding. For renewed effort. After all that we've seen, to fall back into the same routines is unthinkable. We must do better. We can do better.
We must stay engaged in the protection of voters’ rights.
That's exactly why True the Vote took a major step in court this week. Stacy Abrams’ groups Fair Fight and Fair Fight Action are pushing to silence citizens and prevent voters from petitioning their government. We sued to stop them in their tracks. All voters, all citizens should be able to participate in election processes without fear of suppression or intimidation. Enough is enough.
Many state legislatures are already in session, which means election decisions will be made, bills will be proposed or passed - we must all stay informed. And it's True the Vote's job to help every citizen do just that. We’ve got a lot of ramping up to do in order to make that happen, but it must be done.
We are all in this together. Every American should want an election system free of mistrust, free of errors caused by negligence or nefariousness. A system that is open and transparent and accountable. It’s achievable, but it will take incredible levels of citizen engagement.
True the Vote is going forward into 2021, renewed, resolved, and ready to work. And we look forward to working alongside each and every one of you in the days ahead.
We must recognize this endeavor will be difficult. Stay the course.
In the coming weeks, we will introduce some major new initiatives and incredible tools that will empower every American in their effort to help make America’s election process great again.
One step at a time, one person at a time, one community at a time - working together we really can true the vote.
ATLANTA, Georgia – This week, True The Vote filed a countersuit against Fair Fight Action, Inc. in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Georgia, asking the court to stop Fair Fight Action from continuing its effort to intimidate True The Vote and Georgia voters who lawfully submitted elector challenges in their counties prior to the Jan. 5 election.
"Fair Fight Action’s legal attack sought to chill the efforts of True The Vote and
Georgia voters across the state who petitioned their counties to protect the right to vote for all legal voters in the Jan. 5 runoff election," said True the Vote Founder and President Catherine Engelbrecht. "This case aims to fight back against a group that took square aim at the constitutional rights of those committed to election integrity. Citizens have the right to petition of government. We will stand against any who would try to stifle that right through intimidation tactics."
It has been a long election, and we all know there's much more work yet to be done.
