Hi John,

CNBC has reported that “in December, women lost a total of 156,000 jobs, while men gained 16,000 jobs,” accounting for more than 100% of the jobs lost last month.

For months, Republicans in the Senate blocked legislation to address the gender wage gap and stalled critical pandemic relief legislation while rushing corporate bailouts. The staggering unemployment rate for women is the consequence of years of inaction that we can no longer afford.

According to the vice president of the National Women's Law Center, the pandemic job losses “may have devastating effects for months and years to come” on women's workforce participation.

It is abundantly clear that we need to act now to ensure that women have the tools they need to regain their footing in this crisis. We need to push for a larger relief package that includes childcare services, state funding, and that ensures paid family leave beyond the pandemic. And then we MUST ensure that women are making the decisions where it matters most.

It will be up to us to address the systemic challenges that women face every day in this country. But money talks in government, and right now we simply don't have the resources we need to amplify our voices.

We need your help, John.
