Last summer, we watched in horror as peaceful BLM protestors were brutally attacked with weapons and tear gas, and violently arrested for standing up against police brutality. Law enforcement and the National Guard discharged violence to stir up and offset their demonstrations at every turn.
But just a few days ago, we saw a completely different story unfold.
During the extremely violent Capitol attack — run mostly by white mobs — some members of the Capitol police were shown taking selfies with insurrectionists, holding their hand to help them down the stairs — instead of taking action to detain them. It’s mind-boggling.
Our extensive defense budget along with what we’ve seen from law enforcement thus far tells us there are more than enough tools at our disposal to offset an attack on the Capitol. So, John, it begs the question...what happened? And furthermore, how?

It’s no secret the history of policing in our nation is inherently and systemically racist. Every day Barbara is working to expel systemic racism from the very threads that make up our country.
But there’s no way to move forward after last week's attack without addressing the connection between racism, racial bias, the white supremacist rioters, the Capitol police, and even the Republican Members of Congress who openly refused to certify the 2020 elections and encouraged the insurrectionists actions along with Donald Trump.
