Green Party of Canada

Hello,

Did you see Annamie Paul’s email from earlier this week, ?

Greens are demanding that the Prime Minister work with the provinces, territories and health experts to end the thousands of avoidable deaths in Canada’s long-term care homes (LTC).

Almost 6,000 people have already signed on to our campaign to end this humanitarian crisis. We need the federal government to step in, and your letter could be the one to convince them to finally take action. Will you add your name now?

Greens have proposed practical measures that would make a difference immediately, like ensuring every LTC resident, staff member and caregiver is vaccinated against COVID-19. As Annamie said, we are not critics on the sidelines – we want to be part of the solution, working to protect Canadians.

Join us in calling for action!

Subject: This is a crisis

Dear friend,

There is no easy way to say this. The deaths in Canada’s long-term care homes amount to a humanitarian crisis.

Thousands of loved ones died in the first wave, and hundreds more have died in the second. And we cannot wait any longer for the federal government to step in. This is a matter of life or death.

It’s hard to believe it’s been eight months since military personnel were sent into Canadian LTC facilities, emerging afterwards with horrifying reports of mistreatment, neglect, poor working conditions, illness and death. It was a call to action – and no one listened. Now the second wave of the pandemic has arrived in LTC facilities, bringing more appalling numbers of infections and deaths.

The need to act is urgent. Greens are calling on the Prime Minister to work with the provinces and territories and take immediate action. They know what must be done.

All measures must be taken to get COVID-19 out of LTC homes. First and most urgent – every LTC resident, staff member and caregiver must be vaccinated. We need rapid testing, personal protective equipment for staff and caregivers, and political leadership to take these simple, life-saving actions.

Will you join me in fighting to stop the senseless death? Sending a letter will urge the government to meet the families’ calls to action.

In addition to immediate steps like vaccination, we know permanent structural solutions are needed, such as setting national standards for care that are strongly enforced and ensuring four hours of regulated care per day for each LTC resident.

I have held town halls and press conferences with leading experts, and Green MPs have stood in parliament to speak passionately about the urgent need to work across party lines in order to save lives.

And we won’t stop speaking out until this crisis ends.

Greens have proposed immediate, actionable measures. We are not critics on the sidelines – we want to be part of the solution, working to protect LTC residents and staff.

Join us in calling for action

We won’t stand idly by as Canadians suffer and die.
