John,
Truth to Power’s first fundraising goal ends today and we are way behind our intended goal of $5,000. This may not seem like much, but let me explain why this is so important:
When the rich and powerful built our current political system, they created it so the rich and powerful would stay in charge. It’s that simple. This is why it’s so hard for political outsiders to break through and make it to Congress.
This is especially evident when you think about how in 88% of congressional elections, the candidate who raised the most money won the race. That makes an already big hurdle for our candidates even bigger.
John, it shouldn’t be this way. Politics should be about representing the will of the people by electing the candidates who best represent their community’s values and interests. Instead, politics has become whatever corporate PACs and special interest lobbyists want it to be.
However, I have hope. I have hope because despite all the hurdles we were up against, six of our candidates joined me in Congress earlier this month. And they made it there by rejecting corporate PAC and special interest money–relying solely on grassroots donors like you, John.
If we’re able to start this year off strong by meeting our first goal of 2021, we will be able to build the foundation we need to support even more candidates who will unapologetically speak truth to power.

Thank you for all of your support, John. It’s an uphill battle, but if we work together and continue to support progressive champions like Jamaal Bowman, Cori Bush, and Ritchie Torres, we’ll be able to change politics as we know it.
