Dear friends –
This afternoon, the Maryland Senate voted to override Gov. Hogan's veto of SB 708 [[link removed]] , a bill that we championed last session alongside community leaders, service providers and frontline advocates across Maryland that would allocate $3.6 million in critical funding to violence intervention and prevention programs [[link removed]] across the state.
We need your help to continue to send a strong message to the Maryland legislature to invest in our communities to end gun violence.
During last year’s session, we worked with frontline advocates to co-chair the Maryland Violence Prevention Coalition with Marylanders to Prevent Gun Violence, to organize briefings, hearings, site visits, strategy calls and engagement of Senate leaders about the importance of this funding.
As an organization led by the voices of survivors, we are proud to join forces with those working locally and advocating nationally including ROCA Inc., R.O.A.R., Shock Trauma, Safe Streets Baltimore, Giffords, The HAVI and many others.
We hope you’ll join our efforts by signing up for our upcoming Maryland Action Meeting & Phonebank , on January 21, 2021, Sign up HERE [[link removed]] to join the fight!
The next weeks will be crucial, as the Maryland House of Delegates deliberates whether to override this veto and we need you more than ever.
Thank you for all your support and commitment to end gun violence.
In solidarity,
Gregory Jackson Jr.
Advocacy Director, Community Justice Action Fund
