Every week, we catch you up on what's new at LIRS—from upcoming events to media appearances, important immigration updates, and more.
With less than one week remaining until President-Elect Joe Biden's inauguration, Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Service is sharing our top ten policy priorities for the Biden administration and 117th Congress. We believe that a sensible, coherent, humane, and just immigration system is within reach and call on our elected leaders to work together to restore the United States' reputation as a shining city on the hill for immigrants and refugees.

On Tuesday night, CEO Krish O'Mara Vignarajah joined Stacey Mei Yan Fong, creator of the 50 Pies / 50 States project, for the third episode of LIRS Culture Kitchen. While their scrumptious butternut squash hand pies baked, Stacey and Krish talked pie, Dolly Parton, green cards, and the immigrant experience.

We are entering a new era and returning to the U.S. being a beacon of hope and freedom."
– LIRS CEO Krish O'Mara Vignarajah, Sojourners

ICYMI: A win in the courts! Last week, the 4^th Circuit Court of Appeals ruled in favor of LIRS against a Trump administration executive order requiring state and local governments to "opt in" to refugee resettlement in their jurisdictions. As CEO Krish O'Mara Vignarajah said, "this ruling provides critical relief for those who have been waiting for years to reunite with their families."
