Team,
The violence at the Capitol last week has left all of us shaken and outraged. But it also made us more determined than ever to win the fight for our future -- and with Joe Biden in the White House and a Democratic majority in the Senate, we can work to move our country forward.
But before we take the next step, I wanted to take a moment to look back on the year we just had.
First and foremost, I hope that you and your family are staying safe and healthy during this pandemic. We have all had to make enormous sacrifices during this difficult time, but there is finally a light at the end of the tunnel with vaccines already being distributed. Please continue to wear your mask, keep social distancing, and stay home when you can to help curb this virus.
As a member of the Senate Small Business and Entrepreneurship Committee, I have had the privilege to introduce or support over 20 bills that provided assistance to Nevada small businesses throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. I will continue to do everything I can to protect Nevada's small businesses, workers, families, and any Nevadan in need -- and combat the setbacks this pandemic has burdened us with.
Supporters like you are the reason I had the opportunity to help introduce and pass critical legislation in 2020 that improves Americans' lives. My philosophy in the Senate has been to work together where we can, and fight where we must. Despite the obstruction we've seen in Washington, I am proud to have worked across the aisle to achieve real results for Nevadans.
I worked with both sides of the aisle during the 116th Congress, co-sponsoring 114 bills and resolutions that passed in the Senate and introducing 33 bills and 4 resolutions, 92 percent of which were bipartisan. Of the bills and resolutions I introduced, 14 passed the Senate and 7 were signed into law, including:
I am incredibly proud of all of these legislative accomplishments. I want to recognize the hard work put into passing the bipartisan Building Blocks of STEM Act to increase opportunities for young children to be involved with STEM education and computer science. I was also proud to introduce and pass multiple bipartisan bills to strengthen our cybersecurity workforce, like the PROMOTES Act and PROTECT Act, which would create STEM and cybersecurity programs for JROTC and authorize cybersecurity workforce training through DHS, respectively.
This past year has also allowed us to gain ground in the longstanding battle to combat anti-Semitism. My bipartisan Never Again Education Act will provide our educators with the resources and training necessary to teach students about the Holocaust. The Auschwitz Liberation 75th Anniversary Resolution I introduced and passed commemorates the 75th anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz concentration camp by Allied Forces during World War II. And most recently, bipartisan legislation I co-led to make the State Department's Special Envoy to Monitor and Combat Anti-Semitism an ambassadorial position has become law.
I have no doubt that we can continue to overcome the numerous challenges we as Americans face now and in the future. I'm proud to work for the people of Nevada each and every day. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for standing with me in these fights for our future.
Have a safe and happy New Year,
Jacky
