On Wednesday, with strong bipartisan support, I voted to impeach Donald Trump for a second time.

The Capitol is our nation’s citadel of democracy and a beacon of hope for people around the world. It has been so for nearly 250 years. Last week, Donald Trump instigated an attack on our Capitol to disrupt the Constitutional process of certifying the votes of the Electoral College. This was a blatant attempt to overturn our Presidential election and decimate our democracy. For this, Donald Trump MUST be held accountable.

Although we are less than a week from a transfer of power, it is important for us to uphold the standards of our nation. We must be clear about the fact that we will not stand idly by as Donald Trump and his insurrectionist followers demean what we stand for and incite violence throughout our country.

I took an oath to work for the people of our nation — that’s why I voted for the Article of Impeachment charging the President with inciting this grave attack. He must be held accountable, and the Senate must swiftly convict and remove him from office.
