Lost in the bad headlines of last week’s news: LGBTQ candidates were sworn in to state legislatures around the country, and they’re ready to get to work!
Colorado Representative Brianna Titone, who faced transphobic attacks during her reelection campaign, began her second term wearing a “Love Wins” mask [[link removed]] .
Kim Jackson, who made history as the first out state senator in Georgia, was sworn in and received her first committee assignments [[link removed]] !
Delaware went from having no out state legislators to having three! Sarah McBride was sworn in as the first out trans state senator in U.S. history [[link removed]] , Marie Pinkney was sworn in as the first out lesbian state senator in Delaware [[link removed]] , and Eric Morrison was sworn in as the first out state representative in Delaware [[link removed]] !
The Rhode Island legislature welcomed Tiara Mack , who unseated a longtime anti-LGBTQ incumbent in the primary [[link removed]] .
LGBTQ Tennesseans also gained two out representatives, Torrey Harris and Eddie Mannis who have taken their seats in the state legislature [[link removed]] !
In Texas, Ann Johnson took the oath of office to represent state House District 134 [[link removed]] ! She’ll be joining a growing group of LGBTQ lawmakers in Texas’s state capital.
Jessica Benham , who made history as the first out woman elected to the state legislature in Pennsylvania and one of America’s first autistic state legislators, pledged to fight for public health and economic recovery during her swearing-in ceremony [[link removed]] .
