What I hear over and over again is that ARC members want to give back—to their families and to their communities, as well as to those left behind

The ARC team after a beach cleanup earlier this summer.
Dear John xxxxxx,

As I reflect on my first two weeks as Executive Director, I am gratified and humbled to see rehabilitation, transformation, and redemption happening all around me. ARC is truly a special environment and catalyst for change.

While we are proud to offer comprehensive reentry and rehabilitation services, I believe something else is our key strength and lies at the core of ARC’s identity.

And that is our call to service.

What I hear over and over again is that ARC members want to give back—to their families and to their communities, as well as to those left behind serving out long sentences and combatting hopelessness.

The Hope & Redemption Team (HART), which I previously directed, is one of the best examples of ARC members giving back. Imagine where you might want to go after serving 20 or 30 years of a life sentence behind bars: to Disneyland? to Zuma Beach in Malibu? or maybe to Vegas or Versailles?

While they are certainly encouraged to travel and recharge, HART members have chosen to spend life after incarceration going back inside, serving those left behind.

On July 20^th at 9:00 AM, you can watch—or even participate yourself—in an ARC service project in which dozens of members and allies will proudly don ARC T-shirts as they participate in the Nothin' But Sand Beach Cleanup ([link removed][UNIQID]) of Venice Beach, hosted by Heal the Bay.

This is one of just dozens of opportunities we will sponsor throughout the year to facilitate ARC members’ giving back to their communities.

ARC serving the community at Food Forward in Los Angeles.
Whether as HART members, as fire cadets at Ventura Training Center (VTC), as interns in the ARC office, or as volunteers in service projects like the one next weekend, ARC members are always eager to show up on time, to work hard, and to give their all when giving back.

Thank you for believing in us and for helping to empower ARC members to live fulfilling lives of dignity, purpose, and service.

Sincerely,

Sam Lewis
Executive Director
