** These Tributes shall be delivered to the custody of the Capitol.
------------------------------------------------------------
Wall Street Journal ([link removed]) (1/13/21) editorial: "Whenever an invader conquered new lands in ancient times, the local tribes made a pilgrimage to offer tribute to the new king. Politics has changed less than you think. Behold the masters of finance who plan to offer the modern version of such gifts—climate tribute. The Institute of International Finance (IIF) has been circulating a draft statement titled 'Financing a U.S. Transition to a Sustainable Low-Carbon Economy' among financial trade associations that it plans to present to the Biden Administration sometime after next week’s inauguration. We’ve seen a copy of the 12-page document, and it reads like a hostage plea. “To help establish a shared vision on U.S. climate policy, the financial services industry seeks to engage with incoming administration leaders and members of Congress on a bipartisan basis,” IIF says. “By so doing, we hope to inform the policymaking process
and demonstrate our willingness and capacity to support a common-sense transition to a more sustainable, and inclusive, low-carbon economy.” At your climate service, sirs."

** "Despite all the progress we’ve made, we still have a long way left to go. Renewable energy is our future and is worth our investment. Try to step up and do your part, but remember that the most impactful changes will need to come from elected officials. The crucial things you can do are to vote and make your voice heard."

Big freeze exposes Asia's energy vulnerabilities.

** Reuters ([link removed])
(1/14/21) column: "Northeast Asia has been hit by a midwinter energy crisis as an extended period of much lower than normal temperatures across the region has strained supplies of coal, gas and electricity to breaking point. China has been forced to restrict power in multiple provinces, Japan has appealed for voluntary restraint, and liquefied natural gas (LNG) prices have hit record highs as generators and utilities scramble for spot cargoes. While freezing temperatures triggered the crisis, they have also exposed an underlying lack of resilience in regional energy systems caused by the rapid transition to gas for space heating and power generation. Japan has failed to restart or replace nuclear generation a decade after the Fukushima disaster, which has left the country short of generation capacity and excessively reliant on imported gas. China’s rapid transition from coal to gas for urban heating systems has tightened gas supplies while the rapid rise in household and industrial
electricity consumption strains the electrical grid. More broadly across Asia, economic growth, rising incomes and surging electricity demand is stretching generation systems and the ability to import enough LNG at peak times."

(1/11/2021) reports: "There’s a breaking energy story that could potentially be a repeat of Texas’ multi-billion dollar Midland Basin. A basin that has been producing since the 1930s and won’t reach peak production until 2035 at a phenomenal 3.8 million boe/d . The most trusted name in natural resource assessments—Wood Mackenzie--says this new discovery is analogous not just to the giant Midland, with a development value of $540 billion, but to two other world-class basins."

PennEast pipeline takes another step forward towards benefitting PA, the Nation, and the world. The question is, will Joseph Robinette Jr. stand in the way?

** Natural Gas Now ([link removed])
(1/14/21) reports: "The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) tonight hosted a virtual public hearing on two permit applications for construction of Phase 1 of the PennEast Pipeline project in northeastern Pennsylvania, where the company plans to deliver natural gas by November 2021. In February, the developer announced that it would build the 118-mile project in two phases between Pennsylvania and New Jersey. Phase 1 is entirely in Pennsylvania, comprising a 68-mile stretch of 36-inch diameter pipe in Carbon, Luzerne, Monroe and Northampton counties. Phase 2 consists of the remainder of the project in New Jersey, where permits are still pending. That phase is targeted for completion in 2023. DEP’s regulatory authority involves only construction activities related to Chapter 102 permits for erosion and sediment control and Chapter 105 permits for water obstruction and encroachment. The developer already has received Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) approval.
Natural gas is clearly the leader for the state’s energy consumption, outpacing coal and nuclear by 57 percent and 42 percent, respectively, but constraints remain. Production and utilization of this resource is negated if it cannot be transported to market. Investments in energy infrastructure are essential."
