John,

President Trump made history this week when he became the first president to be impeached twice. His second impeachment, for inciting the insurrection at the U.S. Capitol on January 6th that killed five people, comes just one week before the end of his term.

But this is not the end of the fight against Trump’s abuses of power. Now it is up to the Senate to hold Trump accountable through an impeachment trial. We continue to demand that the Senate reconvene immediately and convict and remove this lawless president from power. But, even if the trial won’t happen until Trump is already gone, a Senate conviction could include preventing him from ever holding federal office again.

Sign if you agree: the Senate must convict Trump and disqualify him from holding future office.

As we argued last week in an op-ed published in The Boston Globe, Trump has no plans to retire quietly from public life. He has already entertained the idea of running for president again in 2024, and he will likely spend the next four years claiming to be a president in exile who was deposed in a coup. He’ll destabilize and delegitimize federal and state governments and incite political violence against his enemies, all in an effort to regain power. He must be convicted and barred from holding future federal office.

Sign the petition: Demand that the U.S. Senate convict Trump and disqualify him from holding federal office again.
