Friends,
This week, I voted against the second attempt to impeach President Trump, was selected to serve on the powerful House Energy and Commerce Committee, and penned an op-ed analyzing the reasons we continue to see illogical, unconstitutional lockdowns in response to COVID-19.
Please reach out to my offices if you have a concern, want to hear what we’re working on in Congress, or are having trouble with a federal agency. I have a full team in Texas and in the nation's capital ready to assist you. Be sure to stay up to date by following me on Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube.
Now, let's catch up.
Sincerely,

WHY I VOTED AGAINST IMPEACHMENT
My reasoning behind voting against impeachment was simple:
- The legal standard for incitement is very high, and I believe the specific direction and intent necessary to prove incitement was lacking in this case. I also believed that impeachment based on this standard would lead to a slippery slope that would target political speech.
- There is less than a week left in President Trump's term, leaving little time for due process or a thorough investigation.
- We need to deescalate, lower the temperature, and move forward together as a country. A rushed impeachment would do the exact opposite and prevent the country from coming together as we so desperately need.

MY SELECTION TO SERVE ON ENERGY AND COMMERCE
This week, I was selected to serve on the House Energy and Commerce Committee - the most powerful committee in Congress with the broadest jurisdiction over key public policies.
I am honored to be chosen by my colleagues to serve on Energy and Commerce. The issues before Energy and Commerce directly impact our community in Houston, especially when it comes to health care and energy policy. I look forward to serving Houstonians on this committee, fighting for personalized health care, lowering drug costs, commonsense solutions to climate change, and protecting Texas energy jobs and our economy.
During my first term in Congress, I helped lead the Republican messaging strategy on high-profile issues before the Energy and Commerce Committee like drug pricing and climate change.
The biggest, most consequential policy debates will be settled on this committee and I will continue to stand up for Houston as I get to work on Energy and Commerce.

UNDERSTANDING ILLOGICAL LOCKDOWNS
"If a lockdown worked the first time, why are we doing it again? If a lockdown didn’t work the first time, why are we doing it again?"
To understand the answer to that basic question, we must understand the differences between liberals and conservatives when it comes to public policy making. Liberals and conservatives have fundamental differences in the way we view risk-taking and also in the way we view the government's role in dealing with this pandemic.
Lockdowns have destroyed lives and livelihoods, and have little if any benefit on reducing the spread of the virus. They are unscientific and unconstitutional. That's why I have been forcefully against lockdowns from the very beginning.
But speaking out against lockdowns is not enough. We must examine the psychological and cultural differences that have led so many public policy makers to implement these foolish policies in the first place.
I penned an op-ed on Daily Wire to do just that.
