Listen, just one year ago, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and all but one Republican senator refused to convict and remove Donald Trump after he abused his powers to try to cheat in the election. And we now know what happened next. The President wasn’t chastened or changed by impeachment. Instead, after he lost the election to Joe Biden, he refused to concede, and spread lies and conspiracy theories that undermine our democracy. He tried to overturn the results in the courts, in the state legislatures, through the Vice President and Congress, and finally, when all those approaches failed, he riled up a mob and told them to go to the Capitol. Senate Republicans now must do what they should have the first time, and convict Trump for inciting an insurrection against the peaceful transfer of power. As of right now, McConnell says he won’t bring the Senate back to session until next Tuesday, January 19th — the very last day of Trump’s presidency and day before President-elect Joe Biden’s inauguration. They must not delay. Donald Trump is a clear and present danger to our democracy. And he must be convicted. Why? So he is finally held accountable for his dangerous and destructive actions and can never hold public office again. Thanks for always standing with us in this fight. — Adam |
