National Harm Reduction Coalition creates spaces for dialogue and action that help heal the harms caused by racialized drug policies.
NEWS & ANNOUNCEMENTS:
+ ICYMI: Welcome back! What to say after you respond to an overdose with naloxone. We recently had the pleasure of speaking with The DOPE Project (Drug Overdose Prevention and Education) team about what to do and say after you've used naloxone to reverse an overdose from opioids. Experiencing a medical emergency like an overdose is traumatic and we can support people returning to consciousness with kindness and without judgment. EMERGENT & EXCITING WORK
+ NEWS: The National Harm Reduction Coalition joined forces with Drug Policy Alliance, People’s Action, and VOCAL NY to highlight key legislation and federal policies that address the disproportionate consequences of the drug war and overdose crisis on Black, Indigenous, and low-income people who use drugs. This week, in the midst of a Presidential impeachment - over 200 drug policy, harm reduction, health care, and community based organizations from across the country signed on to a letter to Dr. Rahul Gupta, Team Lead for the Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP) on President-Elect Biden’s Transition Team.
We’ve identified key federal policies the Administration can tackle during the first 100 days of the presidency. With a unified voice, we urge the incoming Biden/Harris Administration to take bold, decisive, evidence-based action that shifts the government’s response to substance use and ends the drug war once and for all. Read the letter to Dr. Gupta and join the NHRC Policy and Advocacy email list for further action. [link removed]
+ ARTICLE: In Kassandra Frederique and Danielle Sered’s article, “Let’s Reject the Violent vs. Nonviolent Crime Dichotomy to End the War on Drugs” they explore how investing in the binary of “good people worth saving” and “bad people who aren’t”, leaves us all losing.
