Friend,
In just a few days, on January 18 and January 19, we will be hosting workshops and virtual volunteer events to honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., an unremitting force in the fight against poverty, racial apartheid, and hunger. As a global pandemic and demands for racial justice collide, it is more important than ever to uplift Dr. King’s messages and legacy.
We’ll kick off our 20th Annual Serve-a-Thon with a virtual anti-hunger rally on Monday, in partnership with the Presidential Inaugural Committee, and with special guest Senate Democratic Leader Charles Schumer. Following the rally, participants will have the opportunity to take part in phone banking to let people in need of food know how they can get help. You won’t want to miss it! RSVP for the rally and phone bank event here. ([link removed])
The rest of Monday and Tuesday will focus on a series of virtual workshops addressing the intersectionality of food justice and other social justice issues, followed by a virtual service activity with a nonprofit partner organization. We’ll cover a range of topics including gender equity, racial justice, using technology for social change, immigration rights, and much more.
Please join us in our day of service to honor MLK’s fight for justice and equality with our MLK Day Serve-A-Thon.>>> ([link removed])
Dr. King passionately believed in everyone’s ability to be great, because everyone has the ability to serve their community. As he famously proclaimed, “You don’t have to have a college degree to serve. You don’t have to make your subject and verb agree to serve. You only need a heart full of grace. A soul generated by love."
We implore you to show up and work with your community to bring about change. No experience necessary. ([link removed])
Thank you,
Joel Berg
