Dear Friend,
In just a few short days, we will inaugurate a new President and Vice President and begin to turn the page on the hate and division that has marked the last four years. GLAAD is proud to be a nonprofit partner of the Biden-Harris Inaugural Committee, and we hope that you will join us by taking part in one or more opportunities below to celebrate our democracy as we recommit ourselves to the ideals of equality, inclusion, and diversity.
We’ll be in touch throughout these historic upcoming days as we honor our nation and prepare for the work that lies ahead to achieve full equality and acceptance for LGBTQ people and all marginalized communities in this country.
Sincerely,
Sarah Kate Ellis
GLAAD President + CEO

Monday, January 18: All Day
We will honor the spirit of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. with a National Day of Service, an opportunity for all Americans to unite and serve at a time when the global pandemic calls on all of us to work together and support our communities. No matter where you are, you have an opportunity to give back. Most volunteer activities only require an hour or two of your time, and all events will be virtual or socially distanced, in accordance with CDC protocol. Click here to find an event.

GLAAD presents RECLAIMING OUR GROUND: A Preinaguration Conversation About the Future of LGBTQ Equality in America | Join GLAAD for a conversation with Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel about the state of LGBTQ equality and acceptance in America, the new Biden-Harris administration’s commitment to supporting LGBTQ people in the U.S. and around the world, and how communities can come together to ensure success. The conversation will be hosted by The 19th’s Kate Sosin, an LGBTQ+ reporter, who focuses on politics and public policy. The event will premiere Tuesday on GLAAD’s Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
Tuesday, January 19: 5:30 pm ET/2:30 pm PT
GLAAD will participate in a National Memorial Moment to Remember and Honor the Lives Lost to COVID-19 in cities and towns across the country. A Washington, D.C. ceremony will feature a lighting around the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool, and GLAAD asks that you join us on your social media channels to pay tribute during this time. Stay tuned to our Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram pages to get the tools you’ll need to participate. You can also join by placing candles in your windows at home, encouraging local landmarks to be lit in amber, or by ringing bells in remembrance.
Wednesday, January 20: Noon ET/9 a.m. PT
Since we can’t gather on the National Mall as would be customary to celebrate the inauguration of a new President and Vice President, GLAAD is partnering with the Biden-Harris Inaugural Committee to install a Field of Flags on the National Mall featuring nearly 200,000 American Flags. You can make a contribution and become a symbolic sponsor, and when you do, your tax deductible gift will be split between GLAAD and dozens of other charities across our country doing vital work in our communities. We hope you’ll consider a contribution of at least $25 — Click here to give.
