Dear John,

As you are aware, the insurrection on Capitol Hill that occurred on January 6 marked a dark day in American history. For me, these events confirmed that we are at an inflection point in our country and it is for us to unflinchingly determine whether the riots of January 6 mark the end of something or the beginning of something.

We just witnessed the second impeachment of President Trump yesterday. I hope that he and his fiercest and bigoted acolytes are banished from our halls of power. Whether or not that occurs, there’s still important work that we need to do locally.

It is up to us to end this troubled time, to rebuild our country, to overcome the COVID pandemic, and to ensure our economic recovery is equitable. I want us to work together now to improve our infrastructure and schools. I want us to come together now to improve our police and community relations. I want us to listen to each other now with compassion and understanding. There is no sugar coating to cover the violence of last week and the hatred we all witnessed. We need to be the change for better, for healing, and for creating the future we all want for ourselves, our families, and our communities.

We need to lead right here, right now.

You all know about the reforms I promoted in the past and what I want to do in the future. I will continue to be transparent and clear in my plans moving forward. You can count on me.  I count on you.

Let's be the team that others wish to emulate and join. I hope you will continue to support me as we embark on this journey together.

I cannot do this without your support.

Thanks as always,

Jorge
