Yesterday, I voted to impeach the current occupant of the White House for inciting a violent coup at the U.S. Capitol last Wednesday - putting thousands of lives in danger and betraying our democracy.
Impeaching Donald Trump was critically important, but we cannot stop there.
The day after the attack, I called on House leadership to launch a joint investigation into how hundreds of violent insurrectionists were able to gain entry to the Capitol so easily and determine who exactly aided and abetted this attack on our government.
The American people have a right to know what role members of law enforcement and other government officials might have played in the violence that put so many lives at risk.
We cannot simply “turn the page” - we have to keep pushing to hold Donald Trump and every single person who encouraged and supported the attack accountable for their actions. I will continue pushing for a full investigation to shed light on the complete and utter failure of our law enforcement and agency apparatus to secure the U.S. Capitol and the people inside it.
Thank you for your support today. I deeply appreciate your partnership at this critically important moment.
In solidarity,
Ayanna Pressley
