Next week is going to be a time to celebrate: Donald Trump will no longer be president. We’ll be starting a new chapter as Joe Biden and Kamala Harris are sworn in. That warrants putting some champagne in the fridge this weekend and making sure your most festive sweatpants are clean for the big day.
Next week also means we can finally get to work undoing the damage of the Trump years and building back better. That will be a massive undertaking, but we can start right in our own communities.
To kick off the Inauguration Week of President-elect Biden and Vice President-elect Harris, this Monday, January 18, will be a National Day of Service to celebrate and honor the spirit of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and you can sign up right now to find an event in your community.
The Presidential Inaugural Committee is working with partners across the country to host virtual or socially distanced service events focusing on COVID-19 relief and addressing issues worsened by the pandemic including hunger, racial justice, homelessness, mental health, educational disparities, and economic opportunity.
Most volunteer activities only require an hour or two of your time, and any time you can spare to give back will make a difference. Events include letter writing to seniors in nursing homes, remote tutoring over Zoom, contactless food and clothing donations, neighborhood clean-ups, and more.
Just head to votesaveamerica.com/volunteer to find an event near you and sign up. Once you’ve done that, help us get the word out and let your friends know how you plan on giving back this Monday:
