Friend,
One of the first things you are told to do as a new representative is “call time”: get on the phone and call wealthy donors to write big checks to your campaign to fundraise for re-election. The suggested amount of time for new representatives to do call time is four hours a day to keep pace. That’s 20 hours a week (or 1,040 hours a year)!
For some people, four hours is half the work day — and it’s all time that our elected officials should be spending legislating and working on behalf of constituents.
That’s why Jamaal won’t be doing call time. Instead of spending 20 (or more!) hours a week on the phone to fundraise, he’s committed to fighting for our communities and families. Thanks to this movement of grassroots donors, Jamaal can devote his time to researching issues, legislating, attending committee meetings, and reaching out to constituents.
And as the 117th Congress starts to get underway, it’s important that Jamaal can continue to focus 100% of his time on pushing for our agenda in Washington. That’s why we’re asking for your support once again:
Will you make a $5 donation to make sure that Jamaal can focus 100% of his time on legislating and fighting for us in Congress?
Contribute $5
For too long, New York’s 16th District has had an entrenched, establishment incumbent “representing” us. Our communities have been hurting — and there’s a lot that folks are looking to Jamaal to get done in his first term.
Not having to worry about fundraising or call time will give Jamaal the room to focus on his job entirely and fight for us. But we need our online fundraising — from emails just like this one — to keep pace with our goals.
Please chip in $5 or anything you’re able to, and help keep our grassroots fundraising strong so Jamaal can focus 100% of his time on legislating, not campaigning.
In solidarity,
Team Bowman
