Friend —
At the last
weekend's General Membership Meeting, we voted to endorse and become a
strategic partner in the United Front, a coalition set forth by our
Black and Brown Alliance branch to connect campaign issues to the
working class and underclass of Detroit.
This is a
monumental endorsement by Detroit DSA—we voted to dedicate ourselves
to an ambitious project where we will build a coalition with other
Detroit organizations, and establish winning issue-based campaigns
that will improve material conditions for Black and Brown
Detroiters.
It's a long-term project that will primarily
focus on integrating this strategy into our electoral campaigns, but as opportunities arise, this
effort will involve all of our chapter working groups in building
campaigns capable of mobilizing the working class here in
Detroit.
The United
Front will take a great deal of work and commitment from everyone in
our chapter, but it's an unprecedented opportunity to build solidarity
with the people of Detroit and envision what's possible when the
working class stands together and fights for a better future for
ourselves and our communities.

🌹 ANNOUNCEMENTS 🌹
Defund the Police, Refund Detroit: Community
Budget Priorities Virtual Forum On March 5, Mayor Duggan
will present Detroit City Council members with a fiscal year 2022
budget that will increase funding to the Detroit Police Department
while defunding crucial departments like Health, Housing, and
Transportation. It is beyond time that the city budget prioritizes
ways to actually meet the immediate needs of Detroit's working class
rather than protecting and further enriching the politicians and
billionaires.
WHAT
YOU CAN DO Each City Council member is hosting a community
forum in their district to hear from you about what you want them to
prioritize. Join us at the one in your district to make a public
comment and let them know that they must defund the police and refund
Detroit!
SIGN UP to get involved in
upcoming events with our Defund the Police campaign.
