Tweet @ Pharmaceutical Executives:
COVID-19 vaccines must be equitably and fairly distributed.
Friend: With COVID-19 vaccines starting to be approved for emergency use, it may look like an end to the pandemic is in sight. But as global authorities discuss how the vaccine will be distributed, it’s important to make one thing clear now: This pandemic will not be over until it’s over for everyone, everywhere.
That’s why Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is fighting for a people’s vaccine, one that is distributed fairly and equitably all over the world on the basis of need. In order to make that happen, we need your help holding pharmaceutical industry CEOs accountable: Help MSF apply public pressure during this critical time by tweeting at pharmaceutical executives at Pfizer and Moderna.
The pharmaceutical industry is playing an essential role in developing the COVID-19 vaccine—but this work would not be possible without generous public and charitable funding. That means the corporations developing these technologies have a responsibility to ensure these vaccines are available to everyone who needs them—especially the most vulnerable communities.
These pharmaceutical corporations must:
Provide full transparency of the costs associated with bringing the COVID-19 vaccine to market.
Commit to share technologies and materials with qualified producers and not enforce intellectual property.
Ensure technology transfer to other qualified producers.
Commit a proportion of overall vaccine volume and manufacturing capacity to low- and middle-income countries.
The coronavirus has affected millions of people around the world, none more so than the vulnerable people in the places we work. We need a people’s vaccine.
And we need your voice in this fight . Tweet at these executives overseeing the development of COVID-19 vaccines now and tell them to commit to equitable access for all people in all countries.
