"The President... shall be removed from Office on Impeachment for, and Conviction of, Treason, Bribery, or other high Crimes and Misdemeanors." -- Article II, Section 4: U.S. Constitution

The Constitution is very clear, John. When presidents violate their oath of office, when they disregard their duty to the people they serve, the remedy is impeachment and removal from power. The checks and balances of our Constitution dictate that Congress must hold presidents accountable when they violate their oath.

By voting against impeachment yesterday, Mike Garcia has failed to fulfill this sacred duty, and he put more American lives at risk.

If Republicans in Congress don't believe that direct incitement of an insurrection against their own branch of government -- an attack that threatened their safety and the lives of the vice president and hundreds of members of Congress and staff -- merits impeachment, then nothing ever will.

At a moment when he should have put country over party and facts over lies, Mike Garcia once again showed his true stripes. He is a coward: more afraid of losing support from Donald Trump's base than of violating his own oath of office.

He heard the president's words. He lived through the violence those words caused. He has been briefed on what they are planning over the next week leading up to President-elect Joe Biden's inauguration. He should have been outraged. But still, Mike Garcia refused to protect and defend the Constitution by holding Donald Trump accountable.

The Republicans claim that they oppose impeachment in favor of building "unity." But there can be no unity when politicians of one party close ranks around a president who is clearly unfit to remain in office for one day longer. There can be no unity without accountability.

Republicans like Mike Garcia refused to do their duty. Thank goodness that 232 members of the House did theirs.

Mike Garcia has failed his constituents, and he does not deserve to keep his seat in 2022. John, chip in $5 or whatever you can to flip CA-25 back to blue in two years.

Thank you,

Christy
