John,
One week ago yesterday, at the direction of President Trump, the Capitol was sacked by a mob of rioters seeking to prevent Congress from fulfilling our constitutional obligation to certify the results of the presidential election.
John, this act of violence was one of the worst attacks on our democracy in American history, and it demanded a response from Congress, not just for our democracy but for those around the world wondering if democracy works.
By spreading disinformation and refusing to accept the results of a free and fair election, President Trump has shown that he is a clear and imminent danger to not only our democracy, but democracy around the world.
That’s why yesterday, I voted to impeach President Trump for his incitement of the attempted insurrection at the Capitol.
This is not a decision I take lightly. As I see it, the only divide in our politics that matters right now is between those who believe in democracy and those who do not. All other differences now pale in comparison.
As we move forward into a new administration, it is my sincere hope to work alongside my colleagues from every political background who believe in our democracy to restore the soul of our nation and solve the big challenges we face. And no matter what, I will always put the interests and needs of North Texas first.
Thank you and God bless America,
Colin
