The House of Representatives has once again carried out its necessary constitutional duty and has voted to IMPEACH Donald Trump, this time with bipartisan support.
Now the Senate must move swiftly to CONVICT and remove Trump from office.
This is the first time a president has been impeached twice. Trump’s dangerous disregard for the responsibilities of our nation’s highest office and his role in inciting the violent insurrection at the U.S. Capitol that left five people dead, including a Capitol police officer, is unconscionable and unacceptable. Every single House member who voted in favor of impeachment – including ten Republicans – understands the risks he presents: Trump is unfit to hold federal office.
This has always been true, but his reaction to losing the 2020 election has made it even clearer. For months, he spread baseless conspiracy theories about election fraud and told his supporters “you have to get your people to fight” to change the election’s results to what they wanted. All of Trump’s lies then culminated in the violent insurrection at the U.S. Capitol on January 6.
Trump has demonstrated no remorse for his actions or even any understanding of how dangerous his behavior has been. The Senate must vote to convict Trump. Our Constitution and our democracy require it.
