Yesterday, the House of Representatives voted to impeach Donald Trump for insurrection against the U.S. government.

I applaud this decisive, bipartisan action. Our democracy cannot bow to violent intimidation, and yesterday’s vote makes it clear that our government stands strong, despite Trump’s best efforts to tear it apart.

Now, it’s time to move forward.

Let’s be clear about what that means. We cannot return to, or rely on, the politics of the past. Last week’s riots made the need for change even more apparent. Our country and our Commonwealth need fresh leaders with visions for a better future -- not rosy memories of how things used to be. 

And because Virginia’s Governor race is the first major election after Trump leaves office, this is where we decide what our future looks like.

John, this campaign is not about me. It’s not about any other candidate.

It’s about you.

What you need to get by. What your neighbors need to thrive. What your community needs to prosper.

That’s why I’m committed to building a people-powered movement that is about each and every one of you and your loved ones.

That’s why I’m fighting for higher wages, affordable health care, criminal justice reform, reproductive freedom, and stronger unions -- because I’ve been listening to what you need, and I’ve had to make the same hard choices that you’ve had to make.

That’s why I’m asking you to invest in this campaign. Together, we can build a better future that works for every Virginian. It starts with us.
