Republicans promised Donald Trump “learned his lesson” two years ago.

They promised that again last week after the Capitol riots that left five people dead.

But earlier this week, Donald Trump said this: "For Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer to continue on this path, I think it's causing tremendous danger to our county and it's causing tremendous anger. I want no violence."

Donald Trump is the one causing this anger. Donald Trump is the one who will not accept responsibility or consequence for his actions. It’s a technique seen in the worst of dictators -- he causes the violence, then blames others for it.

It’s clear he won’t resign. It’s clear Vice President Pence and the cabinet will not invoke the 25th Amendment. Yesterday’s impeachment vote was the only way forward -- and the forthcoming trial in the Senate is the only path toward accountability and healing.

I look forward to the Senate trial and the actions to bar President Trump from ever holding federal office ever again. I’ll keep in touch as we move forward -- in the meantime, stay safe and stay healthy.
