John,
In the midst of last week’s attempted coup at the U.S. Capitol and the immediate, dire need to remove Donald Trump from office, we’ve been unable to take a moment to acknowledge the incredible work that resulted in two historic U.S. Senate victories in Georgia.
Georgia’s Senate elections have tipped the balance of power in Congress. This is the direct result of record volunteerism—and, in turn, record voter registration and turnout.
Together, with our allies on the ground in Georgia, including Black- and Latinx-led movements—particularly Black women—CHN was proud to play a role in organizing and activating communities of color in this historic election.
Your support fueled CHN's voter engagement efforts including translating voter materials into Spanish to expand voting access to underrepresented communities; helping hire field organizers to reach Black, Latinx and LGBTQ+ voters; and, providing volunteer opportunities to CHN supporters in Georgia and across the country, which helped Georgians make a plan to vote and helped drive record voter turnout.
Now, even as we defend our democracy and our communities against white nationalist and anti-government hate groups who are emboldened by last week’s failed coup, we must also undertake the critical task of governing in the midst of a pandemic that has taken over 376,000 American lives and cost millions their jobs—disproportionately impacting communities of color.
With Democrats soon to be in control of both bodies of Congress, and Joe Biden poised to be sworn in as President next Wednesday, we have tremendous new opportunities to fight for our shared priorities—to lift up underrepresented communities, young and old, the sick and the poor.
Chip in $5 today to fight for our shared agenda to address racial, social and economic disparities, and invest in critical programs to lift up no- and low-income families.
