As Covid cases surge in the UK, we are all looking forward to the roll out of the national vaccine programme. The vaccines that have been approved are a massive game-changer to beat this virus and will help end cycles of lockdowns and social restrictions.

They are such a crucial tool in the fight against Covid-19, that they should be global public goods - produced in mass quantities to meet global demand, affordable to all countries and free to the public.

But they aren’t. As the UK population gets vaccinated, countries in the global south could be waiting years because the pharmaceutical industry is putting corporate profiteering before saving lives. They have sold most of their vaccine stocks to the highest bidders leaving little or none for poorer countries. And they are defending their monopolies and their know-how so no other companies can make their vaccines.

You can help share our demands targeting the five companies who have leading vaccines candidates - Pfizer/BioNTech, Moderna, AstraZeneca, Johnson & Johnson and Novavax - on social media.

Our demands

A month ago, we signed a letter with 100 civil society organisations and experts from around the world addressed to CEOs of pharmaceutical companies to demand that they share their plans to:

Ensure full transparency of their clinical trial results, costs, prices and resources received from public and charitable sources.
Commit to lifting patents on their vaccines
Share their ‘recipe’ on how to make their vaccines with other manufacturers
Commit to producing vaccine doses for low and middle income countries

We want Big Pharma to know that people from across the world are watching how they respond. And so today we are joining forces with Médecins Sans Frontières and the People’s Vaccine Alliance to keep up the public pressure on Big Pharma.

In this country, we know how hard it is to be in lockdown but our wait for the vaccine to reach the whole population will take months. It must be even harder for people in the global south to know that wait could take years. Let's take action together and force Big Pharma to take the steps to develop a People’s Vaccine for all.
