ACLU

Hi ACLU Supporter –

This administration isn't the first to allow Homeland Security to mistreat immigrants – but there's no denying that for the past two and a half years, we've seen the agency ramp up its abuses, fueled by an unprecedented amount of resources.

Those resources are ours – taxpayer money. If you don’t want your taxes to fund the abuse of immigrants, separation of families, and construction of the border wall, then send a message to your senators right now: Cut DHS's massive budget.

Earlier this year, Trump circumvented the congressional appropriations process by declaring a national emergency and funneling military money to DHS to build his border wall. Both House and Senate voted on a resolution to terminate the national emergency, but he vetoed it, as expected.

This back-and-forth shows the president's blatant disregard for the will of the people – who largely rejected his anti-immigrant agenda in the midterm elections – as well as Congress' power as a co-equal branch of government.

But we have a way to fight back: Right now, Congress is deciding DHS's budget for the next fiscal year. Let's raise our voices while we have the chance.

Write to your senators right now and demand they cut DHS's budget and prevent the president from transferring funds to DHS from other vital agencies.

ACLU Supporter, if we want to pursue the inclusive, humane values we profess as a country, then we must hold DHS accountable. And that means cutting its budget.

Thanks for raising your voice,
