Dear friend,

Earlier this week, the New York Senate doubled down on democracy and passed a series of bills to make voting easier, fairer, and better for more people. [[link removed]] I can think of no better way to fight back against those who wish to tarnish and undo our democracy than to strengthen it.

These bills will ensure that many more New Yorkers have access to the vote, their voices get heard, and their votes counted in a timely manner. This package will:
-- Create no-excuse absentee voting
-- Make it easier to apply for an absentee ballot
-- Speed up the absentee counting process
-- Create an online portal to track absentee ballots
-- Permanently authorize ballot drop boxes
-- Prevent ballot disenfranchisement

These steps will go a long way in making sure that everyone who wants to vote can vote, and making sure we begin to improve our democracy for all. The success of our democracy depends on the strength and trust in our system.

These reforms are just the beginning. This legislative year is going to be a watershed year — we cannot return to politics as usual. We need to look to creative ways that we can help repair our city and state, and look towards a brighter and better future for all New Yorkers.
