Friend --

Today, I'll be inaugurated for a third term as your governor.

I'm so grateful for the faith Washington state has put in me and for the support this online community gave me through the past eight years. It's been an honor. But you better believe the work is just getting started.

The last year alone has been particularly difficult: More than 3,500 Washingtonians have lost their lives to COVID-19, while many more are still struggling financially, emotionally, and physically to recover from this virus. We all feel the anxiety, and so much is still yet unknown.

But even through this difficult time, we know one thing: Washingtonians will rise to the challenge. We are a resilient state. We know how to recover and will continue our march toward a more just and equitable community.

In the last year, we've seen so much tragedy, but we've also seen so much hope: remarkable heroism from our frontline workers, generosity from friends and neighbors, and unending support and love from family members near and far.

I'm focused on rebuilding, and when we get back to normal, it must be a new normal -- a better normal. A new normal focused on ending racial injustice, supporting small business and local entrepreneurship, reimagining public health, building pathways to good jobs, expanding education opportunities, expanding access to affordable housing, and continuing our commitment to end climate change.

This new era will take all of us coming together to build something better. President Abraham Lincoln said, "The fiery trial through which we pass, will light us down, in honor or dishonor, to the latest generation." Out of the darkness of 2020 begins a new dawn, one in which we'll build an equitable and robust future for all Washingtonians.

I shared more of my vision for the future of Washington state over on Facebook, and I'd love for you to take a look and share with your friends and family.

We'll get this done, Washington.

Very truly yours,
Jay
