Dear John

Hope for One Million

“The Lord had been preparing me and implanted in my heart a passion for the lost souls”

Praise God that amidst the challenges of a global pandemic the African Enterprise Southern Africa Region has hit the ground running. Based in Zambia and combining operations there with Malawi and Zimbabwe, AE Southern African Region (AESAR) builds on the closeness of the three counties both geographically and culturally, who once were one as the Federation of Rhodesia and Nyasaland.

Under the leadership of Dr. Lutangu Lubasi (AESAR Regional Team Leader), more than 1,030 pastors/ evangelists/ associates/ missioners were trained in Home Based Evangelism (HBE) in the region and 69,845 souls were reached with the Gospel of Christ including 14,640 who committed their lives through the Zomba mission, the Lusaka COVID-19 Response and many other evangelistic and social action initiatives in the region.

Dr Lubasi is a Christian minister of the Gospel and has been a Development Practitioner for many years. He is also a qualified Aircraft Engineer

Lutangu committed his life to Christ in May 1981, while in high school. It was a decision that fundamentally turned him around and defined both the direction of his life and career. While Lutangu’s childhood ambition was flying, his new relationship with Christ created a new passion in him to win men and women to Christ and to nurture them to transform their families and communities.

At the Zambia Air Service Training Institute (ZASTI), he was the chairman of the ZASTI Christian Fellowship under the Zambia Fellowship of Evangelical Students (ZAFES), the Zambian student movement under the International Fellowship of Evangelical Students (IFES).

In March 1993, Lutangu was approached by the ZAFES Board to consider taking up the position of General Secretary. As he saw it then, the choice was between pursuing a personal career to become the commander of an Airline jet or to answer God’s call to shepherd God’s young people in the nation of Zambia. “While it was not an easy decision to leave a lucrative flying career and take up a job that promised little in terms of material gain, the decision was made easy because over the years, the Lord had been preparing me and implanted in my heart a passion for the lost souls. And considering that Christ left His throne in glory to come and die on my sins, I think following Him and becoming His minister with little pay was a small price to pay. And besides, serving Christ gave me the opportunity to win many souls to Christ and to impact a whole nation for Jesus Christ while accruing to me rewards of eternal value”, Lutangu reminisces. He served in ZAFES for six years.

Dr Lubasi has also worked for World Vision Zambia, the Zambia Missions Network, and the Evangelical Fellowship of Zambia (EFZ), and was invited to be one of two National Coordinators for the Lusaka Leadership Initiative, the leadership mission which African Enterprise undertook in partnership with EFZ. Since then, Lutangu embraced the vision of AE to reach the cities of Africa in Word and Deed.

Lutangu has a Doctorate in Ministerial Theology with Freelandia Bible College and Seminary (USA) and a Bachelor’s Degree in Human and Social Sciences with specialization in Development Studies from the University of South Africa (UNISA).

Please pray:

*
That every soul that has come to Christ through the Zomba mission, the Lusaka COVID-19 Response, and other evangelistic initiatives will abide and grow in their new found faith.
*
Pray for the successful transitioning of the 3 AE offices into one region to function as one unit. Pray for God’s wisdom, guidance and grace to be upon the AESAR team leadership and Boards as they seek to make this happen.
*
Pray for the political and socio-economic challenges of Malawi, Zambia and Zimbabwe- including such issues as high cost of living, poverty in the general populace, high unemployment, corruption and the debt crisis.
* Please pray for the continued healing and well-being for Guide Makore and family, who are recovering from their house fire and rebuilding their lives with your wonderful support.

Every blessing to you as we start the new year. Stay safe and thank you so much for all you make possible through Christ in Africa.

Ben
