Exactly one week after President Trump
incited a violent attempted coup at the U.S. Capitol, the U.S.
House of Representatives has officially voted to impeach him for
a second time.

Every member of Connecticut's Congressional delegation voted in
support of impeachment today, making Donald Trump the first
president to ever be impeached twice in American history.

The past week has been long and painful for every American. We
all watched in horror last Wednesday as the violent mob of Trump
supporters desecrated our nation's capital, threatened the lives
of Members of Congress, and ultimately caused multiple people to
die.

As the Hartford Courant reported, "Connecticut's elected
representatives were forced to take cover behind chairs and desks
and flee to safety. It was unthinkable, unimaginable. Until it
was reality."

In the aftermath of that traumatic day, our Democratic Members
of Congress have immediately taken action to protect our
democracy, hold Donald Trump accountable for his treasonous
actions, and ensure the peaceful transfer of power next week.

Connecticut is showing the world the true strength of American
democracy. More than one hundred members of the Connecticut
National Guard are now deployed in Washington, D.C. to help
ensure everyone's safety as we anticipate the commencement of the
Biden administration.
