John,
President Trump has been impeached. Again.
When we first called for President Trump to be impeached again, it was because of his phone call with the Georgia Secretary of State in which he attempted to get him to overturn the state’s presidential election results.
Little did we know that a few days later, the president would incite a violent insurrection in an attempt to hinder Congress’s final counting of the 2020 electoral college votes—undermining our democracy and likely committing the crime of seditious conspiracy. That is a serious federal crime, and it merits immediate impeachment and removal.
Just minutes ago, the House voted to impeach the president. The articles of impeachment will now proceed to the Senate—and the Senate must act to convict and remove him from office, as well as impose a further penalty to protect the country from him: disqualification from holding office again. It does not matter that Trump only has a week left in his term. That is far too long given the power he has to incite further violence before leaving office. And he must be prevented from holding, or even running for, the presidency again, which would create the opportunity for unimaginable further harm to the country.
It’s obvious: President Trump must be held accountable through removal and disqualification.
Ten House Republicans voted to impeach the president. Some Republican senators have indicated they may be willing to vote to convict and remove him—we have to keep the pressure on those senators and encourage others to join them.
Will you email your senators now and tell them that Trump must be removed from office, for the good of our democracy?
If you live in Washington, DC, consider sharing this action with friends and family and asking them to contact their senators.
The Senate must do its job. Removing Trump from office and barring him from serving again is the very least we can do to begin to repair the damage to our democracy.
No one is more deserving of the undying legacy of two impeachments, a bipartisan vote for removal and a ban on future elected office.
Thank you,
Noah Bookbinder
