Friends,

As we count down the days until our friend Joe Biden is sworn in as President of the United States, I wanted to share some exciting news about my own role here in San Francisco.

Last week, my colleagues on the San Francisco Board of Supervisors granted me the honor of a lifetime when they held a unanimous vote selecting me to serve as Board President.

By choosing me to serve as Board President, my colleagues have taken a bold step -- entrusting me with setting a vision for unity and leading our Board of Supervisors forward, together.

Friends, these are dire times for San Francisco, and for our country. Just under one year ago, a global pandemic hit our City; over the course of many months, we witnessed countless injustices of Black people and people of color -- whether at the hands of law enforcement or a divisive leader in the White House trying to divide us during COVID-19.

Throughout all of it, the Board of Supervisors has worked tirelessly to help keep San Franciscans safe, and build a more inclusive City for all who call it home.

I look forward to leading our Board as we keep up the fight against COVID-19 and work to keep one another safe.

In the midst of so much darkness and instability in our nation, San Francisco can be a beacon of progress, diversity, and positivity for the country. We’ve served that role before, and we can again -- if we all work together.

Thank you,

Board President Shamann Walton
