The House of Representatives voted Wednesday to impeach President Trump for inciting last week’s siege at the Capitol, delivering an extraordinary — and bipartisan — rebuke that makes him the only president in history to be impeached twice.
The vote came after a daylong debate that quickly became heated, with most Republicans claiming impeachment was “divisive.” But House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and a parade of Democrats declared Trump a threat to the nation who needed to be removed from office in the final days of his term.
“We know that the president of the United States incited this insurrection, this armed rebellion against our common country,” she said. “He must go. He is a clear and present danger to the nation that we all love.”
