Dear Friends,

The need for accountability for all who participated in the violent insurrection at the U.S. Capitol last week on January 6 cannot be overstated. NRCAT has signed onto several national secular and faith letters supporting the bi-partisan effort to remove Trump from office for his role in instigating this riot, and we have joined calls for swift justice for all involved.

You are invited to join NRCAT in #PeacewithJustice weekend, a national faith response to the attempted coup as well as a response to the FBI’s current warning of plans for armed protest by white militia groups in state capitols and Washington, D.C. between Jan. 16-20.

Over MLK weekend, clergy and laity across the U.S. will join in a call for unity and justice by preaching and teaching in the spirit of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. who said that “True peace is not merely the absence of tension; it is the presence of justice.” We encourage you to link peace and the healing of the nation with the need to address political divisions, racism, white supremacy, and an end to violence and intimidation.

On Monday, MLK Day, you are invited to join in a national prayer vigil featuring prayer, fasting, and visible signs of peace-making that will continue until noon on Jan. 20, when Joe Biden and Kamala Harris will be sworn into office. Also, as part of a coordinated effort, we invite you to use the hashtag #PeacewithJustice in social media posts at 11am ET on Jan. 20.

Visit the NRCAT website in the coming days for interfaith vigils and sample social media posts.

Thank you for joining us in this effort to lift up the organized voice of the faith community in these troubling times. Thus far, the NRCAT staff and the staff of our interfaith partners who work on Capitol Hill in DC are safe, and we plan to keep it that way.

In hope,

Rev. Ron Stief
Executive Director
