Former 'beer cave' discovered in St. Louis neighborhood

A cave used for storing beer in the early 1800s has been unearthed under a community garden in St. Louis, Mo. "This was the brewery epicenter of the city of St. Louis because of all the caves," said St. Louis Alderman Dan Guenther. The project facilitator for the cave recovery, Bill Kranz, explained that the cave started out for storing ale but was also home to a mushroom farm, wine grotto and community gathering space.
