John,

Last week, Governor Burgum delivered his 2021 State of the State Address, showcasing the resilience, ingenuity and strength of North Dakotans while highlighting the exceptional opportunities that lie ahead for our state.

Here are some highlights:

On heroes in our communities:
“…We've had no shortage of heroes in 2020, starting with our frontline healthcare workers...They've given themselves tirelessly and in doing so, working together, are truly saving lives.”

On our state’s future opportunities:
“Together we can set our state on a positive trajectory by leveraging the ingenuity and resources of the private sector and harnessing the power of the legacy fund. And we can accomplish all of this with a fiscally conservative state budget that holds the line on general fund spending, invests in our priority, maintains healthy reserves, all without raising taxes.”

On how our state stacks up in the nation and the world:
“Our state was ranked number one in air and water quality, third in the best place to raise a family, and we also received top five rankings in economic performance, infrastructure, and the best state for millennials. By continuing to pursue our strategy to prioritize innovation over regulation, we can position ourselves to play a leading role in feeding and powering the world well into the future.”

On our state’s continued fight against the global pandemic:
“North Dakota currently ranks third in the nation in the number of people per capita initiating vaccination according to the CDC…more than 20,000 North Dakotans had received their first dose of the vaccine…This battle is far from over, but we can see the light at the end of the tunnel, and we've got the tools to get us there.”

On what sets North Dakota apart:
“Our interactions speak to the very core of who we are as North Dakotans. Let us show the world that North Dakota is an exceptional place, not just for our powerful contributions to feeding and fueling the world, and driving innovation, but let's show them that it's an exceptional place for our ability to demonstrate how deeply we care for each other, our communities and our state."

As our team’s hard work continues this year, we’ll continue to keep you updated with the progress we’re making and the ways you can help. We appreciate your friendship and commitment to our efforts.

With Gratitude,

Team Burgum
