America is where the super-ambitious can realize their dreams. It used to be where the hardworking average person could, too.

Today’s extreme income inequality is bad for business, bad for capitalism, and bad for our country.

Help tell lawmakers why sustainable business cares about what’s good for all of us – before things get worse.

“Making Capitalism Work for All” – Dec. 10-11, 2019 in DC

Dear John,

Lawmakers think business wants wages kept as low as possible. But smart business leaders know our consumer economy can’t thrive without broad-based prosperity. They’re tired of policy that lets companies externalize their business costs onto the rest of us. And they’re tired of leaders who ignore the strain on taxpayer-funded services that help those companies avoid fair pay. Poverty-wage workers stock and sell our purchases, help our nurses, prep and serve fast food, take care of our young children and seniors, and provide other basic services we take for granted. This situation affects the rest of us – and affects how many now view the promise of capitalism as a reward for productive work.

In 2012, the top 10 percent took home 50 percent of all income -- the highest percentage in the last 100 years. And a study by economists Saez and Piketty found the top 1 percent took home 20 percent of all income. No wonder many Americans are questioning business as usual. They’re asking, what do successful businesses owe their country? What kind of capitalism do we need for a successful future? And what should the role of government be? ASBC is hosting this action-oriented Summit to make the business case for practices that create long-term value – AND have lawmakers support these practices.

December 10-11, responsible business leaders will convene at the ASBC Summit, together with dozens of provocative thought leaders. You’ll hear from Patriotic Millionaires, B Lab, Earth Friendly Products, Economic Policy Institute, Seventh Generation, Business Roundtable and many more; including Chris Lu and others who’ve served at high levels of government.

At the Summit, we’ll also meet on Capitol Hill with members of Congress from both parties -- and tell them why we support policy changes to make our capitalist economy work for all.

American Sustainable Business Council leads policy change on behalf of responsible companies including major brands. Join us in D.C. in Dec. Together, we can change how America does business – for the better. Register before Sept. 27 for Super-Early Bird Discounts!
